The Hon. Jeremy Corbyn, MP
Leader of the Labour Party
Leader of the Opposition,
My dear Colleague,
It is with great pleasure that I have learnt of your resounding success in the leadership contest of the Labour Party of the UK. The results announced a few moments ago comfort my party and me in particular that a man of your calibre with deeply entrenched convictions of the principles that guide the Labour Party, as a movement of the masses should be entrusted with the mantle of leadership and be the new torch bearer of the party that has done so much for the working class in the UK.
Your principled position, be it in Parliament over the welfare issue, or among the people on the present refugee crisis bode well for the future.
We have in the MMM followed with very keen interest your stewardship of the APPG on the Chagos Archipelago and on Western Sahara in the House of Commons. I have no doubt that we shall have the opportunity to exchange on these very important issues in the near future. It will be my pleasure to bring you up to date with my views on the way forward with respect to the Chagos Archipelago sovereignty issue once you have settled down in your new position.
Meanwhile the MMM joins me in extending to you our warmest congratulations and best wishes in your role as Leader of the Opposition of the UK and Leader of the Labour Party. I look forward to meeting with you personally during my next visit to London or indeed in Mauritius, should you be visiting our country in the near future.
Highest consideration,
Paul Bérenger, MP
Former Prime Minister of Mauritius,
Leader of the Opposition,
Leader of the MMM.
Port Louis.
