Dear Prime Minister Lee,
I have learnt with sadness the demise, in the early hours of this morning, of your beloved father, Mr. Lee Kwan Yew, former Prime Minister of Singapore.
He will be remembered as the the architect of modern Singapore. His stewardship towards a successful and fruitful shift in the development paradigm in your great country has been a source of inspiration for many small developing countries the world over, including Mauritius. Under his guidance, Singapore assumed its rightful role in the concert of nations and wielded a positive influence on many far-reaching decisions in international fora, be it at the Commonwealth or the WTO, among others.
Please do accept my personal condolences and those of my party, the MMM, on this sad occasion and kindly convey the same to all afflicted by this loss and to the people of Singapore.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Bérenger,
Leader of the Opposition and of the MMM,
Port Louis
