Message of condolences
His Excellency Raül Castro,
President of the Republic of Cuba.
Your Excellency,
I have learnt with deep emotions, early this morning, the demise of former President Fidel Castro, leader of the historical Cuban revolution and your esteemed brother. President Fidel Castro brought in a new dimension in international politics at a time when the world was divided on ideological grounds, demonstrating in the same breath, that might did not always prevail. For years, under his staunch leadership, Cuba stood up against all odds and, despite untold economic hardships, defended what he ï¬rmly believed was right for his country and its people.
A towering international ï¬gure, whose impact on the international scene during the last century is readily acknowledged by all, President Fidel Castro epitomises in the developing world a leadership based on independence of thought and action.
My party, the Mouvement Militant Mauricien, associates itself with me in expressing to you, Mr. President, and to his afï¬icted family as well as to the Cuban nation, our profound respects and deepest sympathy on the disappearance of this great world personality.
